The group of shipwreckers includes around 30 people, a third of them children and women at different stages of their pregnancy. The others are men with thin, gnarled bodies, whose haggard faces are framed by dirty hair. Dressed in a heterogeneous manner with the fruit of their plunder, they would be to be pitied if they were not to be feared and eliminated. Many of them suffer from kuru because of their anthropophagous diet. Some are regularly shaken, some are toothless, and most move swerving, swaying, and only stand and stand with their legs stretched out too far to balance. Finally, several men in the group stay away from the others and seem to converse alone or hunt invisible flies for their fellows, suffering from hallucinations which will progressively progress to paranoia. Leading a primitive life, everyone is able to fight and their illness brings them an unexpected advantage in this context, their frequent loss of balance making their movements in combat unpredictable (including for the cannibal warriors themselves). |
