Ex priest of the Colt of the Crimson Bet; Lay worshiper of Thanatar (Atyar aspect) Human male, 48.
Coriander was a morally bankrupt citizen of Imther, who joined up with the Bat Cult when the Crimson Bat passed through his country thirty years ago. He was also financially bankrupt, and had to mug his grandfather to get the 50L required as a joining fee. Coriander helped find victims for the cult as best he could, but he wanted to be reasonably safe from the prospect of ending up as Bat Food and so murdered one of the cult initiates and applied for the position left vacant. This blatant treachery was admired by the incumbent High Priest, who duly admitted him into the cult ranks.
After ten years of uninspired service as an initiate Coriander was elevated to the Bat Cult priest upon the death of the old High Priest. All was going fine for Coriander, until one day he did something notable. Outside the walls of Five Ways (a Lunar provincial city) the Crimson Bat went on a mad feeding frenzy, devouring over one-quarter of the city 's population. The rampage continued, until Coriander attempted to stop it. He "criticalled" his Bat Mastery roll, causing to Bat to tremble and shudder before him as it had never done before. The new High Priest was furious, for his attempts to control the Bat had been useless. He openly vowed to do away with the troublesome upstart. The initiates and the Rune Lords realized that the High Priest was a vicious and vindictive, enough animal to starve the Bat and feed the whole cult to it except for himself and the three ranking priests above Coriander to exact his revenge. To save their skin, they attempted to kill Coriander themselves. Coriander survived several attempts on his life and then fled, closely followed by the cult spirits of reprisal. After fighting them off, he realized he was now excommunicated from the cult that had been his life.
After wandering around the wilds for a time he was picked up the Thanatari. Originally destined for the sacrifice pens, the Atyari learned of his talents and recruited him.
Coriander dreams of one day repeating his glorious actions before the Bat. He is fairly stupid, but cunning. Coriander is tall but overweight, and is missing most of his teeth. He has a fine orator's voice, which belies his tawdry appearance.
